The Amateur Motor Cycle Association was founded in
1932 in the West Midlands and the organisation has now grown to a National
Organisation which is the largest in Europe specialising in Motocross.
The AMCA's constitution states that it is independant of any other
organisation and whose main concern is the efficent management and control
of motorcycle sport for the benefit of the riders involved whose primary
interest is in the sport and not the reward.
One of the reasons
for forming was to exclude works riders who rode special machines provided
by top manufacturers. The same principle holds true so that no rider has
an advantage over the others and all machines must be on general
sale. There are nearly 200 clubs based around England and Wales which
means over 300 events run per year. The AMCA splits the country into area
groups. Avon Sporting is a member of the Midlands region.
